  • Pete Doherty
    (b. 1964, Ottawa, Canada)

Pete Doherty is a self-taught photographer and graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Toronto, who, for many years, left behind the world of art to become a successful amateur boxer.

After retiring from his amateur career, Doherty returned to the ring with his camera in hand. His work as a photojournalist is mainly focused on boxing and the people who populate that world. His photographs document the emotions, training, and politics that make up both amateur and professional fighting.

Doherty has participated in numerous exhibitions including “Save Me Joe Louis” at Gallery 44 Members Gallery, Toronto; “Object of the Game,” AWOL Gallery, Toronto; CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival, Toronto; D.U.M.B.O. Art Festival, New York City; Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, Toronto; and Queen West Art Crawl, Toronto. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including: B+W Magazine Single Image Contest – Silver Award – Sports (2005); and Toronto Star Photo Contest, First Prize - People Category (2003). Doherty’s work can also be found in numerous collections including the Portrait Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Wedge Curatorial Projects, Toronto; and many private collections. He currently lives, trains and photographs in Toronto.
