  • Violet Keene Perinchief was an English-born Canadian photographer. The daughter of portrait photographer Minna Keene and painter Caleb Keene. Violet first learned how to use a camera around 1913 at her mother's studio in Montréal, Canada. After her family moved to Toronto, Ontario, Violet continued to apprentice under her mother, and eventually ran their studio after relocating to Oakville, Ontario, in 1921. After a long engagement, Violet married in 1928 but was widowed four months later. As a single mother, she bussed daily into Toronto to serve as the manager of the Eaton’s photography studio on College Street from 1933-1948. Violet also operated her own portrait studio in Oakville and throughout her career photographed major figures of her time including Aldous Huxley, George Bernard Shaw, Amelia Earhart, W.B Yeats, Vere Ponsonby; 9th Earl of Bessborough, and the Canadian Governor General.
