John Davies (b.1949, England) is best known for his landscape and post-industrial photographs of Great Britain. He began his photography career in the mid-1970s creating a majestic topographical study of Britain and Ireland. Later he would begin to document more urban and industrial scenes and formulate an overarching narrative on Britain itself, as a post-industrialized nation in a state of flux. Davies also photographed in Western Europe in the 1980s, and continued his investigations of Britain into the 2000s. Davies has published several books, including a major monograph, The British Landscape (Boot, 2006), and was the subject of a major retrospective at PhotoEspana, Madrid the same year.
