Chromogenic Curmudgeons is a duo formed by the artists Evergon (aka Celluloso Evergonni, Eve R. Gonzales, Egon Brut, and Big Hellion) and Jean Jacques Ringuette (aka Gigi Angeletti, Sangye Nyima, and Slim). They co-author their work in contemporary photography. Since around 2015, the duo is basically working with elements readily available in their immediate surroundings: objects and plants. The work is about memories, private and domestic space.
Artist, teacher and activist, Evergon (1946-) is a real cultural icon. Throughout his prestigious fifty-year career, he has always been recognized as being at the front edge of avant-garde experimentation in the field of photography and related mediums. An important precursor of homo-erotic contemporary art and an iconic figure of the homosexual communities, his works were at the heart of numerous major exhibitions worldwide. They are part of a large number of private and institutional collections among which are the National Gallery of Canada and the Musée national des beaux arts du Québec where a retrospective of his work will take place in 2023.
Jean-Jacques Ringuette (1961-) is a Canadian artist whose work has been presented in Europe (France, Germany, Italy, and Spain), the United States, and Canada. His work can be found in numerous private collections, as well as the Musée national des beaux arts du Québec (the National Gallery of Quebec, Canada).
