  • Adolf Schneeberger (1897-1977) was a Czech student of engineering and photography who, along with Josef Sudek, co-founded the Czech Photographic Society in 1924. In 1927 Schneeberger and Sudek opened a professional photography studio. For a brief time, that studio was co-opted to a larger publishing house as its photography department. By 1931, and having no trade license of his own to maintain the studio, Schneeberger chose to return to the ranks of hobby photographers, becoming active in the Czech Amateur Photographers Club. By the mid-1930s, this talented artist had ceased making new photographs. Today, Schneeberger’s exceptional photographs are widely sought out by collectors and can be found among prominent public photography collections around the world.

  • This listing is for a vintage print; a circa 1930 photograph by Adolf Schneeberger from the latter part of his active art practice. Compositionally, the subject matter shows the refinement of Schneeberger’s output that resulted from his time studying under the renowned Josef Sudek, his friend and business partner. The strong geometry and organic forms, balanced by the vantage point of the photographer, make for a thrilling photograph. The verso view shows a signature and annotations in the artist’s hand.
