Born in 1983 in Rouyn-Noranda, Janie Julien-Fort lives in Montreal with her family where she gives workshops and conferences about analogue and alternative photography for University du Quebec in Montreal and in the community.
Following studies in photography and education, Julien-Fort obtained a Master of Visual and Media Arts from UQAM with honours for her studies about photosensitive materials and their specific properties, through images that favour latency over instantaneity, materiality over transparency.
Julien-Fort is the recipient of the Montreal Emerging Photography Award and Canada Council for the Arts grant for l’Amorce (The leader) presented at Occurrence Gallery (2018). Her movie My name is Nobody created at Le Fresnoy Art Centre was shown at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, within the framework of the ARTE Video Night. Her work is part of private and public collections. She was a member of the board of directors of Le Cabinet, a photographic space. In early 2020, she was in residency at Oboro artist run centre as a member of La Bête à Têtes women collective. She will be in Art Omi residency in Ghent, NY in 2021 within the explore Habland Award.
