He has lectured as an invited guest within the university setting, as well as in the public domain, and was named a finalist for the Scotiabank New Generation Art Prize in 2018. Macchiagodena has exhibited work in institutions including art galleries, contemporary art fairs, as well as the Promenade space of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as the result of a collaboration between the Museum and Concordia University’s faculties of Fine Art and Art History.
His practice is imbued with a questioning of the thresholds in our surrounding space. Rooted in the analog process, the photographs he creates offer a reverence for the metaphysical as well as the bodily. Inspired by artists such as Hiroshi Sugimoto and Alfred Stieglitz, his work similarly uses the lens as a means of isolation, conceptualizing process and referencing gesture and temporality. The photographs explore the limited spectrums available to the human senses. These explorations drive his research as an artist as well as his experience as a human being, understanding notions of truth and awareness on a personal level.
